I’ve been turning to some sort of herbal coffee concoction around 3 p.m. or so pretty much every day – sometimes just simple with a splash of non-dairy milk/creamer and sometimes blended up into something a bit more elaborate like this. It gets me through that hangry slump that sometimes has me contemplating a trip to the convenience store for a salty snack. This is the time of year that I start craving new routines and an overall fresh glance at my day-to-day. This little sip tends to lead to a definitive pause. I enjoy this one slowly, and I find that I’m much less likely to go for a late night snack when I take the time to enjoy it. Weird? I don’t know. It works for me in a big way.
Cacao Hazelnut Hug with Herbal Coffee
Ingredients for 1 person
1 teaspoon hazelnut butter
1 teaspoon coconut butter
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon Dandy Blend or Teeccino (or other herbal coffee)
3 tablespoons non-dairy milk
tiniest pinch of salt
sweetener to taste (1 Medjool date or a teaspoon of maple syrup, for example)
1 cup boiling water
In an upright blender, combine the hazelnut butter, coconut butter, cacao powder, herbal coffee, non-dairy milk, salt, sweetener of choice, and boiling water. Close the lid and slowly bring the speed up to high. Let it go for 30 seconds. Turn the blender off and let the froth settle a bit. Pour the cacao hazelnut hug into your favourite mug and enjoy!
